About NAMI of Medina County
NAMI is primarily a volunteer organization dedicated to support, education and advocacy for anyone affected by mental illness. We offer comfort and acceptance. By joining a local NAMI affiliate you also become a member of NAMI National and NAMI Ohio and will receive their quarterly publications on mental health issues that are unavailable in any other format With NAMI in your life you no longer have to walk the journey alone.
WHAT WE DO:
- We provide you with a support group meeting twice a month
- You will develop relationships with other members that can provide you with a telephone support system.
- We are advocates in our county for your loved one and other citizens whose voice is not being heard— persons who suffer from a mental illness.
- We provide you access to many sources of information on mental illnesses that affects adults and children. We have an email newsgroup that will give you access to important information about mental illnesses, medications, local, state, and national mental health updates, and more.
Our NAMI family members are a great resource. Our volunteers teach the Family-to-Family course, facilitate support group meetings, offer support over the phone, and interact with the mental health community on advocacy issues.
We are currently partnering with other NE Ohio NAMI affiliates and Heartland Behavioral Health on a Peer Advocacy project.
We provide input to the CIT training programs that are invaluable for face to face interaction between the police and those suffering from mental illness situations.
